How the process works
Click each step to see who is involved and what happens.
Classification
We check the applicable ordinance and the certification scheme required for the product, domestic or imported.
Certification body
We support the selection and engagement of a product certification body accredited by INMETRO.
Tests
The product is tested according to the ordinance. We coordinate samples, technical documentation and reports.
Audit
When the certification scheme requires it, the body audits the factory or the management system. We guide the client through the audit.
Certificate
The body issues the certificate of conformity, and the product proceeds to publication by INMETRO before import and sale.
Maintenance
We follow the annual maintenance tests and audits of the certification.
Import consent
For imported products: ask your customs broker to request the appropriate import consent (anuência) from INMETRO. This step is carried out by the broker, not by Moderacon, but it is essential to clear the product for import.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my product requires mandatory certification?
By checking whether it falls under an INMETRO ordinance. For household appliances and similar products, the reference is Ordinance 148/2022.
Does the certificate expire?
Yes. Certification is maintained through annual periodic assessments, with maintenance tests and audits. Moderacon tracks this schedule for the client.
Does an imported product need certification in Brazil even if it is certified abroad?
Yes. Foreign certifications do not replace Brazilian conformity assessment, although test reports may be used in some cases, provided they meet the ordinance’s rules.
